The health ministry announced 130 new incidents of people testing positive for coronavirus on Saturday, out of total of 4,285 tests.

Thirty one positives came from contact tracing, 81 from private initiatives and five from passenger checks. Two were identified in lab testing at hospitals, nine through 268 GP referrals and two from school testing programmes.

In addition, testing at nursing homes produced no new positives, neither did sampling under the immigration programme.

The total number of people who have now tested positive for Covid comes to 3,444.

There are 23 people being treated at the Famagusta reference hospital, four of whom are in the high-dependency unit plus two people who are in ICU at Nicosia General. Three others are being treated in the latter’s Covid ward.

Experts have warned that the number of people testing positive is likely to remain in triple digits in the coming days but if the spike continues for longer than 10 days, curfews like those imposed on Limassol and Paphos could be implemented islandwide.
