Education ministry probe after teacher charged with assault on colleague

Limassol police HQ

The education ministry on Tuesday said police and its own officials were investigating an alleged assault by one teacher against another at a Limassol primary school on Monday, which led to an arrest

The incident happened when the deputy head allegedly stormed into the classroom where a colleague was teaching and started to shout and reportedly verbally assault her.

The complaint was filed by another teacher who was in the classroom next door and who heard the commotion. She told police she tried to calm them both down but was attacked by the deputy head, who allegedly hit her.

The suspect was arrested, charged, and released, police said.

The education ministry said in a brief statement that both police and its own officials were investigating the incident.
