A demonstration in support of protests in Poland over the ruling that bans abortions in cases of foetal defects will be held on Thursday in Nicosia.
Supporters of the protests and strikes will gather at 3.30pm and walk around the Polish Embassy.
The event, organised by Polish women living in Cyprus, can be found on Facebook at the group Cy for Polish Women-For Women (in Polish).
Demonstrators will be dressed in black and carry black umbrellas. They will bring with them candles to lit and leave outside the embassy.
Poland currently allows abortions only when pregnancy is the result of a crime (rape or incest), when the mother’s life is in danger or when the foetus is damaged.
The ruling party of the Constitutional Tribunal ruled last Thursday that abortions in case of malformation of the foetus were unconstitutional.
“Now, if a woman even knows as a result of the research that the child will be born still or with genetic defects that make life impossible, she must give birth to the child,” the announcement said.
Since the ruling was announced, there have been protests and strikes in Poland despite that public gatherings of over five people are illegal in the country as of last weekend.
Poles living all over the world have join the protests.
