Coronavirus: Record number of checks sees 68 charged


Police carried out a record 1,814 checks to contain the spread of the coronavirus from Wednesday until Thursday and booked 65 people for not wearing masks and three for ignoring the 11pm curfew in Limassol and Paphos.

One establishment was also fined for violating the relevant decrees.

In Nicosia, 306 checks resulted in 30 individuals being booked and in Limassol three people were fined following 140 checks.

By far the most inspections, 707, were completed in Famagusta. Seven individuals were booked in the district.

A total of 382 checks were carried out in Larnaca, with 15 people being charged.

In Paphos, 134 checks resulted in four bookings, and in Morphou 145 in six.
