The third phase of upgrading works on Nicosia’s Kyriakou Matsi Avenue has been completed and the section of the road from the Presidential Palace to Stelios Mavrommati street  will open to traffic on November 3, Nicosia municipality announced on Thursday.

On the same day, the fourth and last part of the revamp will start. The entire upgrading project is expected to be completed before Christmas.

Road signs directing drivers to alternative routes will be in place in the area.

“The project was placed high on the priorities of the Nicosia municipality, as it aims to upgrade the safety, functionality and aesthetics of a very busy road,” the municipality said in a statement.

The revamp aims to improve the flow of traffic with the construction of a new two-lane road and more parking spaces.

Moreover, pavements on the entire road have been widened in order to facilitate pedestrians.

Two new bus stops complete with electronic information boards were also added, along with high-efficiency LED lamps and cypress trees along the road.

The municipality will also install an underground fibre optic which will allow people in the area to request the fastest Wi-Fi from their internet providers.
