Drunk driver five times over the limit

A drunk driver who was five times over the legal alcohol limit crashed into a pole in Larnaca early on Friday, badly damaging her car.

“Today at around 5.30 in the morning, a 36-year-old foreign woman was driving her car on Makarios avenue in Larnaca towards Dhekelia,” head of the Larnaca traffic police Harris Hadiyiasemi said. “At the roundabout of the port, the woman lost control of the vehicle, as a result of which she went up the pavement, hit a metal pole and came to a standstill.

“Members of the Larnaca traffic police went to the scene where they found the woman inside her car. The vehicle, which suffered extensive damage, was towed and transported to the Larnaca traffic department.”

According to Hadjiyiasemi, the woman underwent a preliminary alcohol test with an indication of 137μg instead of the allowed 22, as a result of which she was taken to the offices of the traffic department for a final test.

The second test showed a reading of 105μg, he said.
