UBP leader tasked with forming ‘government’ in the north

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar has assigned the formation of the new ‘government’ to secretary-general and deputy leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) Ersan Saner.

The former leader of the party was Tatar himself.

Saner was given 15 days to form the 42nd ‘government’ according to the relevant constitution.

“The conditions in the TRNC, both the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic difficulties require the establishment of the government as soon as possible,” Tatar said

Saner thanked Tatar for assigning him the position and expressed the belief that he can complete the formation faster than the set deadline.

The Turkish Cypriot leader met with political parties on Friday to discuss the matter.
