Heavy rain flooded streets in Nicosia on Wednesday with the met office forecasting more unsettled weather for tomorrow.

Photos published on social media showed flooded streets in Nicosia’ Ayios Andreas and Ayios Dhometios’ neighbourhoods after a heavy downpour. Earlier, the met office had issued a yellow alert warning of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain that could exceed 35mm per hour.

The parliament building itself was flooded with multiple rooms requiring a thorough cleanout.

Thursday will be cloudy at intervals with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly around midday. The weather will then clear, becoming mainly fine by the afternoon.

Temperatures will rise to 27C inland, around 26C on the east and south coasts, around 24C on the remaining coasts and 16C in the mountains.

Friday and Saturday will be mainly fine with increased cloud at intervals which on Saturday may lead to isolated showers.

Sunday will be cloudy at intervals with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mostly around midday.

Temperatures will edge up on Friday and then drop again by Sunday to below average for the time of year.
