Additional flu vaccines will be ordered if demand exceeds the 135,000 on order, the state health insurance organisation said on Thursday.

To date, Cyprus received 70,000 vaccines for Type A flu, HIO official Panayiotis Petrou told the Cyprus News Agency.

A batch of 41,500 jabs is expected on Friday to be distributed to personal physicians, while another 24,500 are expected withing the next two weeks.

Prioritising people belonging in vulnerable groups, 65,000 were vaccinated.

“This year we ordered double the amount of vaccines and if needed we will order more” Petrou said.

Last year, Cyprus received 88,000 vaccines, of which 5,000 were not used.

Petrou added that the delivery process is harder this year due to the pandemic.
