Moving to appease anger over long waits, the health ministry said on Tuesday that additional testing sites will operate in Limassol for workers that need a PCR coronavirus test.

Testing is also continuing in other districts until Friday.

Earlier on Tuesday and amid a flood of complaints that people were waiting for hours for a test, the ministry said it was postponing the requirement to present a negative result for 24 hours while Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou took to Twitter to personally apologise for the inconvenience.

The latest decree imposing a lockdown in Limassol and Paphos permits travel to and from the two districts for work, on presentation of relevant documentation from employers and as from 5 am on Thursday, a negative coronavirus test.

These are being offered by the government at testing sites announced by the ministry, though officials have acknowledged that they had not anticipated such large numbers of people would be requiring to test.
