Two jailed for 6 kilos of cannabis

The criminal court on Friday sentenced two men aged 34 and 35 to five and half years in jail each after finding them guilty of illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply.

The two were arrested near the Kofinou area on October 1 after police found six kilos of cannabis in their backpacks.

Both were riding high powered motorbikes without registration plates when they were stopped by members of the anti-narcotics squad, Ykan, who found 3 kilos in each of their backpacks.

The 34-year old tried to escape, initially on the bike and later on foot, but was stopped and apprehended. A police officer sustained minor injuries and was administered first aid at Larnaca hospital and discharged.
