Woman hands over €200,000 in what thought to be internet fraud

Limassol police are investigating a case of internet fraud after a woman claimed she deposited the sum of €200,000 into accounts of an unknown man.

The woman, a resident of Limassol, reported to police she became friends with the unknown man on social media during the year.

Between July and October she deposited money in various bank accounts after he asked for it, claiming he had financial problems.

After she sent various sums of money a total 14 times she reportedly became suspicious and alerted police.
