State aid programme for mountain communities extended

Road is supposed to improve access to the mountains

A state subsidy for mountain communities will continue for another three years, the Council of Ministers decided on Wednesday.

The grant is given to residents living at an altitude of 600 metres and above. It will continue through to 2023 based on the same criteria as those in force since 2019, according to an official announcement issued after Wednesday’s cabinet meeting

A total of 17,900 residents from 7150 households in 110 communities living above 600 metres benefited from the scheme in 2019 at a total cost of €4.3m, the announcement added.
