Limassol respects the necessary measures against the spread of coronavirus, the town’s mayor Nicos Nicolaides said during the Christmas tree lighting late on Tuesday.
A small ceremony with the presence of the municipal council took place to light up the tree at Grigori Afxentiou square.
“This Christmas is very different for all of us. Our town is trying to deal with the consequences of the pandemic and the effects on the workers, vulnerable groups and businesses of our city,” Nicolaides said.
The mayor added that locals “respect the measures that are necessary, but at the same time we demand a corresponding treatment of our city, both in terms of measures and in terms of support for the consequences of the measures.”
Despite the difficulties, Nicolaides said Limassol people would not lose their optimism or faith in the future of the city.
The town maintained “an attitude of responsibility towards the city and our families,” added the mayor.
