Marine police on Wednesday turned back a vessel carrying 35 migrants spotted off Cavo Greco at lunchtime.

The Cyprus News Agency said the vessel carried 20 men, eight women, and seven children. It was spotted sailing off Cavo Greco in the Famagusta district at around 1pm.

A patrol boat was dispatched to the area and officers prevented the passengers from landing in Cyprus, the agency said.

Earlier, it had been reported that the vessel was expected to be escorted to the Ayios Nicolaos fishing refuge.
