Frederick University children’s lit workshop focuses on Christmas

The 11th children’s literature workshop was held with great success and a large number of online participation. The topic of the workshop was Stories to dream…! Christmas Alchemies, and it was co-organised by the department of education of Frederick University and the Rivergate bookshop, with the support of the Cypriot Association of Children’s and Young Adult Books and Patakis Publications.The workshop was addressed to teachers of pre-primary and primary education, who had the opportunity to be trained in the creative use of literary books in the classroom and in particular in the promotion of reading through children’s books on Christmas. The workshop included online sessions with theoretical and experiential parts.The participating teachers had the opportunity to attend workshops conducted by distinguished children’s literature writers: Vangelis Iliopoulos, Liana Denezaki, Stelios Pelasgos, Marilena Kavvada and Ioanna Kyritsi Tzioti. At the same time, the well-known engraver Hambis Tsangaris presented to the teachers his work on the subject of goblins (kalikantziaroi) and spoke about the power of tradition.The event was addressed by the president of Frederick University’s council Natassa Frederikou, the head of the department of education of Frederick University Victoria Pavlou and Aigli Toumpa from the Rivergate bookshop. The workshop was coordinated by Katerina Karatasou, associate professor of the department of education.
