The health ministry announced it has set a cap on the price of coronavirus tests which will be in effect as of Saturday, December 5.

According to the ministry the highest price for PCR tests will now be €55 plus VAT while antigen rapid tests will cost €25 plus VAT. The previous PCR cap was €75 plus VAT.

It also noted that the rapid antigen tests should be performed only by health professionals and not by members of the public on themeslves. “The sampling process is potentially dangerous and rapid tests are not intended for self-testing,” it said.

At this stage, and in accordance with the ECDC guidelines, it said, positive results from rapid antigen tests are verified by the molecular method before being included in confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The ministry also gave a list of all private labs whose results it accepts since they have completed the process of verifying the diagnostic methodology that detects the genetic material of the virus (RT-RCR).

The list may be found here.
