Teachers urged to use own devices for remote teaching

Teachers say they should be able to teach from home like all other civil servants

Teachers who use their own electronic devices for remote learning will be given a bonus, the education ministry announced on Monday.

The education ministry is preparing a proposal for the approval of a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programme, education minister Prodromos Prodromou said after a meeting with the secondary teachers’ union Oelmek.

Teachers who will be using their own devices will be provided with financial support by the minister, Prodromou added.

“With this programme, the ministry is trying to encourage and further facilitate the e-learning as the way in which we maintain the educational process for all children who need to be absent from school,” Prodromou said.

According to recent data from the teachers’ unions, a total of 1,500 students and teachers from all state schools were self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus or identified as contacts of confirmed cases.
