CySO stages concerts for Christmas

Gerardo Estrada 1

It’s going to be a different kind of Christmas this year. How many times have you heard that sentence already? Probably too many. Alas, it’s the truth and the uncertainty around how Christmas will pan out doesn’t make it any easier. But there are some events taking place this month that spread that very much needed holiday cheer – Christmas concerts!

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra organises a festive programme for its annual December concerts each year with joyful, uplifting melodies. This December it’s planning to do the same.

On December 15, 16, 17 and 18 the Orchestra is travelling to Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos to perform their Christmas repertoire alongside soprano Aliki Chrysochou. An exuberant selection of beautiful Christmas songs and orchestral pieces are part of the programme as the concerts aim to share that festive spirit.

“Just to give you a taste,” the orchestra says, “Christmas favourites such as Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Santa Baby and White Christmas, brought to you by the ravishing voice of soprano Aliki Chrysochou, as well as Antonio Vivaldi’s Winter concerto and Fantasy on Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams. Maestro Gerardo Estrada Martínez will be conducting the CySO in this festive, heart-warming programme.”

The concert series will begin at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre at 7pm on December 15 before the Orchestra takes its musical Christmas mood to the rest of the island.
