Pub Christmas tree becomes local landmark

Faced with having to shut down in line with new coronavirus measures, the staff of one Nicosia pub got in the festive mood anyway by using empty beer kegs to construct a six metre Christmas tree.

Now providing something of a local landmark, the tree outside BR Hub lights up at night, bringing a bit of colour to the neighbourhood. It was constructed out of more than 100 empty beer barrels.

Open only for delivery and takeaway, the owners of the pub on Strovolos’ Athinon street said they wanted to do something bigger and better than their usual decorations this year in addition to creating something to bring a smile to the face of passersby during all the doom and gloom.
