Commemorative stamps depict Cyprus’ history

Υπουργός Παιδείας και Υπουργός Μετ

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said the commemorative stamps released for the 60th anniversary of Cyprus’ independence were a reminder of the country’s history and great culture.

“Through to the stamps, the Cyprus Post is celebrating Cyprus’ history and culture, along with the events that left an indelible mark on the country,” the minister said on Friday at the launch of the stamp collection.

“Depicted on the stamps are important milestones in our history that have contributed to the economic and social prosperity of our people.”

“By looking at each of these important milestones on the commemorative stamps, the heritage of our country and our people is recalled in a simple, vivid and emotional way.”

Karousos also said it was duty for Cypriots to keep fighting for the reunification of the country.

“Cyprus suffered many times in its history, starting from the Turkish invasion in 1974 and ending with the most recent provocations from Turkey in our Exclusive Economic Zone and in Varosha.

“These challenges must strengthen our resolve to preserve our history, our culture and our heritage. We owe it to our ancestors and to our children and grandchildren,” Karousos concluded.
