Paphos police on Sunday fined a driver €2,000 for various traffic offences.

Members of the Game Fund reported to police that while they were patrolling the Potamos area of Achelia, they attempted to stop a vehicle which instead picked up speed.

The front of the vehicle did not have a registration plate, they said.

Police investigations revealed the driver was a 21-year-old resident of a village in the Paphos district.

The driver was summoned to the central Paphos police station and questioned.

He allegedly admitted to driving in the area at the time and made various allegations about why he failed to stop which are being investigated.
