Drunk driver fined, has licence suspended

A drunk driver was fined €1,000 by the Larnaca district court on Tuesday in addition to having his licence suspended for two months and six penalty points added to it.

According to the police, at about 1.30 on Monday the 50-year-old driver while he was on Larnaca’s Makarios Ave hit the car in front of him, which its 22-year-old driver had stopped to turn right.

Members of the traffic police arrived at the scene and did alcotests on both drivers. The 22-year-old’s was negative.

However the 50-year-old had a reading of 56μg, where the limit is 9μg for newly qualified drivers.

No-one was injured in the accident but the older driver was arrested.
