A post-mortem carried out on an 11-year-old Paralimni boy who collapsed while playing with friends on Christmas Day and died later in hospital, was unable to establish a clear cause of death, it was announced on Saturday.

The post-mortem was carried out by state pathologists at the Nicosia general hospital. Samples taken will be sent for histopathological and other specialised tests to try and establish the cause of the boy’s sudden death.

According to police, around 4.45pm on Friday afternoon, the boy, while he was at home playing with other children, lost consciousness.

A paediatrician was called and tried revive him but without success. The boy was then taken by ambulance to the A&E at Famagusta hospital.

Doctors there also tried to resuscitate him and he was intubated but despite efforts, the boy died.
