An elderly man died on Sunday morning in Limassol hospital after lying helpless on the floor of his apartment for three days before being discovered.

The 84-year-old was taken to hospital after being rescued by police on Saturday. They said he had lain there for three days after a fall.

Police said they were alerted by a member of the public that the man had not been seen and officers went to the apartment and had to break in.

There, they found the pensioner on the floor. He had fallen and could not get up to call for help.

He was given first aid while an ambulance was called and was able to tell his rescuers that he had been there for three days.
