Two remanded in connection with cannabis haul

Two men were remanded in custody for eight days on Thursday in connection with possession of two kilos of cannabis with intent to supply.

The suspects were apprehended during an operation in which the drug squad intercepted a vehicle in the district of Larnaca. Police said the car, having a 37-year-old man and a woman as passengers, was stopped at around 7.30pm.

Inside, officers found one kilo of cannabis and €2,035 in cash, police said.

Drug squad officers subsequently executed a search warrant at the home of a man and a woman, both 32.

Hidden in the yard, officers found one kilo of cannabis while inside the house, they found a purse with €10,500, a number of mobile phones, and small quantities of cannabis on a table.

Police arrested the two men who claimed the drugs belonged to them. The two women denied any involvement.
