Coronavirus: one death, 202 new cases announced on Saturday (Updated)

The health ministry on Saturday announced  one death from Covid-19 and 202 new cases from 8,014 PCR and rapid tests.

The death concerned a man aged 70 with underlying conditions who died at Kyperounda hospital. This brings the total deaths to 167 of which 111 were men and 56 women with an average age of 79.

There are currently 193 people in hospitals, 59 of whom are in serious condition with 29 intubated.

With the 202 new cases, the total number is now 28,811 positives. From the latest batch, 103 came from 5,611 rapid tests and the remainder from 2,403 PCR tests.

From the latter, 52 cases came from 413 samples taken through contact tracing, three cases from 258 random samples from passenger tests,  seven from retesting of 98 UK arrivals on the 7th day of quarantine,  29 cases from 1,169 people who tested through private initiative, and eight cases from 287 samples taken at hospitals.

From 178 samples taken through GP referrals, no positive tests were detected.
