How Dom Pérignon became the king of champagne

This video traces the origins, rise and enduring appeal of vintage champagne Dom Pérignon, a darling of wine critics and glitterati alike.

From its unique label to the distinctive bottle shape based on its 17th-century design, Dom Pérignon is a universal symbol of luxury and indulgence.

Produced by French fine winery Moët & Chandon, it serves as that house’s prestige champagne and is named after Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who was an important quality pioneer for champagne wine.

Moët et Chandon was established in 1743 by Claude Moët, and today owns 1,190 hectares (2,900 acres) of vineyards. It annually produces approximately 28,000,000 bottles of champagne.
