Mindful Mondays

Mindfulness

Mindfulness. It’s a word we have all heard before, but what does it mean exactly? Is it meditating every day? Is it a mindset or a specific activity? Mindfulness is certainly not about having a mind full of thoughts rather than fully applying the mind to whatever it is we are doing in that moment. Our minds like to wander, mainly because we let it and mindfulness can bring it back to the present moment.

Most of us aren’t born mindful; it takes practice. And a simple introductory step is a weekly class right here in Cyprus.

Eleni Michail, a Mindfulness and Soul mentor, organises Mindful Mondays sessions to “nourish your tranquillity, clarity and fulfilment.” Eleni and her class meet every Monday at 6.30pm (in Greek) and at 8pm (in English) on Zoom to practice mindful acts, meditations and reflections to clear the mind. “Our attention often wanders, swinging between the past and the future,” writes the class description. “Our thoughts can easily become complicated, chaotic and overwhelming. This is a sign to stop, take a breath and reflect: How mindfully we choose to live our lives?

“Mindfulness is the skill of living in the present moment. It enables us to bring together our body and mind so that we can fully enjoy our moment to moment experiences, live with clarity and take the responsibility of our lives. Scientific research has documented a rich plethora of benefits that help to improve our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.”

Each class is unique, blending a variety of experiential techniques that empower mindfulness. At the same time, there is a progressive sequence between the classes, developing concepts and practices. The first class is free of charge. From then on, drop-in classes have a sliding scale price of €5-15. The intention of offering a sliding scale is to make the experience more accessible to a wider range of participants. Students can choose an amount within this range that feels good and reciprocal. Those who pay on the higher end of the scale, through Revolut, PayPal or bank transfer, help make it possible for others to join at the lower end.

“Mindful Mondays always work for me as awakenings,” said one participant. “Last Monday I realised how easy it is to find guidance, simply by listening to my deepest self.” Another student added “My last experience with Mindful Mondays was so gorgeous. Before starting the workshop, I felt tired and exhausted and my mind was not clear. When I finished, I felt refreshed, my battery was full and I received my answers.” Eleni’s workshops are an effortless way to step into a mindful way of living.
