Coronavirus: 22,000 headed to hairdresser, beautician on Monday

Monday’s easing of the lockdown saw more than 22,000 people head for a haircut of to the beautician, making the best of the first opportunity in three weeks to spruce themselves up.

According to figures released by the deputy ministry of research, the 8998 SMS service approved 22,562 requests on Monday under newly established option nine covering visits to the hairdresser, barber, beautician or tattoo parlour.

Shopping accounted for a third of the total of the 362,959 approved applications with 121,504 approvals given. The second biggest category was option eight, or other, with 81,784 while exercise –option six – was third with 66,257.

Under restrictive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, people who have not yet returned to work, are entitled to leave home twice after first securing permission from the SMS service under the permitted options.
