Drunk drivers almost five times over limit arrested

ΚΟΡΩΝΟΪΟΣ ΜΕΤΡΑ ΑΠΑΓΟΡΕΥΣΗ ΚΥΚΛΟΦΟΡΙΑΣ ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ

Two drunk drivers were arrested for and fined for being out past curfew, police said on Sunday.

One man, aged 27 was driving on the Nicosia – Limassol highway at around 11:20pm and was pulled over. His alcohol levels were found to be 109μg instead of the 22μg legal limit. He was arrested and charged in writing for drunk driving but was also fined for being out past curfew.

On a similar note, at around 1:20am in Limassol, another 27-year-old was pulled over and his alcohol levels were 106μg instead of the legally permitted 22μg. He was arrested and charged in writing at the closest police station and incurred a fine for violating coronavirus measures – being out past curfew without permission.

Police also said in Aradippou at 8:40pm on Saturday, a 19-year-old was arrested for driving at a speed of 135km/h instead of 65km/h. He was charged in writing.

In the past 24 hours, traffic police said there were 111 bookings for speeding.
