Coronavirus: Two deaths, 105 new cases (Updated)

Two deaths from coronavirus and 105 new cases were announced on Monday.

The two deaths were two men, aged 93 and 89. Both had underlying health conditions. The total number of deaths from the virus now stands at 214 and the average age of death is 79.

The health ministry said there were 103 people in hospital of whom 34 were in serious condition. Of the 34, 19 are intubated, five are in ICUs without ventilators and ten are in the high dependency unit.

As for the new cases, the 105 positives were identified via 34,739 tests – of which 2,283 were PCR tests – resulting in a positivity rate of 0.30 per cent.

The majority of positives, 68, came from the 31,955 rapid tests.

The rest: 18 positives from 218 contact tracing tests, seven from 753 private PCR tests, five from 288 tests done via labs at general hospitals, and seven from 501 rapid tests done privately.

No positives were identified from the 804 tests done on travellers or the 220 tests taken on doctor’s referrals.

Limassol continues to record the highest positivity rate with 0.56 per cent, followed by Famagusta and Larnaca both with 0.13 per cent, Nicosia with 0.08 per cent and Paphos with 0.04 per cent.

Meanwhile, a further 65 cases, of which 42 were local transmission, were announced in the north by ‘health minister’ Ali Pilli.

The cases, identified via 4,058 PCR tests, raises the total to 2,834 while the number of Covid fatalities remains at 16.

It was reported that Nicosia had 23 positives, 35 in Kyrenia, four in Famagusta and two in Morphou while 22 were from previously confirmed cases.
