Coronavirus: one death, 103 new cases announced on Thursday (Updated)

One more person has died of Covid-19, while another 103 have tested positive for the coronavirus islandwide, health authorities said Thursday.

The latest casualty takes the death toll to 218. The deceased was identified as a 75-year-old woman with underlying conditions who expired at Nicosia general hospital’s ICU unit.

The average age of the deceased from Covid-19 is 79 years.

On the hospital front, 94 patients were being treated for the coronavirus, 35 of whom in a serious condition.

Of the 35 serious cases, 20 are intubated, four receiving treatment in ICU without intubation, and 11 are in a high-dependency unit.

Famagusta general hospital, the referral facility for coronavirus patients, was treating 24 people.

Nicosia general had 34 patients, Limassol 32, and Makario hospital four.

As far as the testing goes, the 103 new cases came about from a total of 25,971 samples, yielding a positivity rate of 0.4 per cent.

Of the 103 cases, 25 were from contact tracing, one from checks at the airports, seven from people getting tested on their own initiative, 11 from samples taken at microbiology labs in state hospitals, three from testing among migrant communities, one from testing in sports federations, and 55 from the antigen rapid test testing run by the ministry of health.
