Cyprus has one of the highest survival rates for pediatric cancer in the world, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou said on Monday as International Childhood Cancer Day is marked globally on February 15.

“On the occasion of today’s International Childhood Cancer Day, we send our love to the little heroes who with their fight prove that childhood cancer is not unbeatable,” he posted on Twitter.

The high quality services offered by the pediatric cancer unit of Makarios hospital result in the survival rate for the disease comparing favourably with the rate of most developed countries, he noted.

“We thank and appreciate the contribution of both the medical and paramedical staff as well as all the other bodies and organisations which contribute to winning this battle.”
