Coronavirus: care homes can receive visitors with negative test from March 1

Residents of care homes will be able to receive visitors as from March 1 subject to stringent protocols that include visitors presenting a negative coronavirus test, the labour ministry said on Friday.

The protocols apply for state, private and community care homes for the aged, facilities for the disabled and child and teenage protection homes.

Each resident will be allowed a maximum of two visitors from the same household per visit, with a total of two visits a week. Visits must be arranged in advance by telephone with the manager of the facility and must not exceed one hour.

Strict protocols will be adhered to, as published www.mlsi.gov.cy/sws. Visitors must present a negative coronavirus test result. For PCR tests, these must have been carried out 48 hours before the visit, and for rapid antigen tests 24 hours prior.

Close contacts of confirmed cases will not be allowed to visit until their self-isolation period ends. In addition, management must take the temperature of all visitors and prohibit entrance to anyone exhibiting any symptoms consistent with Covid-19.

Management is obliged to keep a record of all visits with the contact details of visitors available for contact tracers should the need arise.

Management should also ensure that all visitors aged over 12 are wearing a mask and that social distancing rules are adhered to.

The place where the visit will take place must be well ventilated, with authorities recommending that these be carried out outside, weather permitting.

For any clarification, interested parties should contact the district offices of the social welfare services or by email to [email protected].
