Cyprus has low share of women in management

managers in the eu 2019data 02

Cyprus has the third lowest share of women in managerial positions among the EU member states, Eurostat reported on Friday.

In the third quarter of 2020, women accounted for only around a quarter of managers in Croatia (24 per cent), the Netherlands (26 per cent) and Cyprus (27 per cent).

The largest share of women at managerial positions was recorded in Latvia (45 per cent) and Poland (44 per cent), followed by Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia and Sweden (all 42 per cent).

In Q3 2020, more than 9.5 million people held a managerial position in the EU: 6.2 million men and 3.3 million women. Although women represent almost half of all employed persons in the EU, 46 per cent, they are under-represented amongst managers (34 per cent).

In Cyprus, the number of managers was 16,600, of which 12,200 were men and 4,400 women.

“With some bumps on the road, this share has gradually increased from just below 30 per cent in Q2 2002 (beginning of the time series),” Eurostat noted.

The figures were published as part of the run-up to International Women’s Day marked annually on March 8.
