In the framework of Francophonie 2021 and in cooperation with the Alliance Française de Limassol, the Embassy of Switzerland pays homage to one of its leading film directors Francis Reusser, who passed away in 2020. An upcoming screening at Rialto Theatre will feature the director’s classic film, winner of the Locarno Golden Leopard award, Le Grand Soir (The Big Night, 1976).

March 19 at the theatre will feature a recently restored version of his classic film by Cinémathèque Suisse – the national film archive of Switzerland. Starting at 7pm and lasting 95 minutes, the film will be presented in French with English subtitles as it follows the story of Léon who works as a security guard in Lausanne. One evening on one of his rounds, he discovers a group of Leninist activists in an underground building and develops feelings for the kind of action claimed by them and for the charm of Lea.

Admission is free though prior seat reservation is required so that health and safety measures can be followed. Tickets can be booked via the Rialto website (www.rialto.com.cy) or via telephone (7777-7745).

This year’s Francophonie programme of events will be held from March to September. To keep up to date with what’s on, a Francophonie 2021 à Chypre Facebook page has been created.
