Coronavirus: Police issue fines to 180 people, two establishments (updated)

Police reported 180 people and two establishments in the past 24 hours for violating health and safety measures, in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

In total, police conducted 12,921 checks across the Republic, which is on the verge of a third wave.

In Covid hotspot Limassol, officers reported 90 individuals during 4,396 checks, compared with 2,760 and 17 bookings in the capital.

Larnaca police booked 21 individuals and one venue during 1,390 inspections while 30 people and an establishment were issued fines in Paphos after 1,180 checks.

Police said the owner of the place in Paphos was fined €500 because she was not wearing a mask and not keeping a distance while talking to another person.

Similarly, the owner of the venue in Larnaca was slapped with a €500 fine because he was working without a coronavirus test.

In Famagusta, police fined 16 people in 1,489 checks. Police in the Morphou area carried out 886 checks and booked one person.

Five people were also reported by traffic officers during 727 checks.
