Police made several arrests for various offences over the past 24 hours, including possession of a knife and threatening an officer, drunk and disorderly conduct, and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

At lunchtime Friday, police arrested a 25-year-old in Nicosia’s Ledra Street after he pulled a knife and threatened an officer.

Officers had asked the man for his ID and he apparently showed them a forged driver’s licence. The suspect then tried to flee, threatening an officer with a knife.

In the afternoon, officers were called to Eleftheria Square where they found and arrested a 42-year-old for being drunk and disorderly.

In Larnaca, just before 11pm, officers were called to the scene of a disturbance where they found three individuals. One of the men, 43, started shouting and swearing at the officers who placed him under arrest.

All three were also fined for violating health and safety measures against the spread of the coronavirus.

Late in the afternoon Friday, police searched a house in Paphos and found an assortment of valuables suspected of being stolen.

Police arrested three individuals, 37, 31, and 30, in connection with possession of stolen property.

Among the items, officers found three mobile phones, a tablet, and two bicycles. A court remanded the three in custody for three days on Saturday morning.

Also Friday afternoon, traffic police intercepted a man doing 160 kilometres per hour on the Nicosia to Limassol motorway near Kofinou.

Police had been notified earlier that the driver of the vehicle was being reckless and dangerous.

After he was stopped at around 4pm, the 35-year-old swore and threatened officers who placed him under arrest. A preliminary test showed he was under the influence of drugs.

An hour earlier, officers arrested a 29-year-old man in Nicosia who was caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

A breathalyser test showed 97 micrograms of alcohol, well over the permitted limit of 22.
