Police arrest man after credit card theft worth €12,000

Nicosia police arrested a man on Tuesday in connection with the theft of more than €12,000 using a stolen credit card.

The stolen card was reported to police in February by a resident of Nicosia district village. The man told police that when he received his bank statement, he found his credit card had been charged for purchases amounting to €12,407 between December 16, 2020 and February 5, while he had not made any of the purchases.

The card had been used in 204 transactions during this time.

Evidence pointed to the involvement of a 39-year-old man who was arrested under a warrant on Tuesday and is being detained pending further investigation of the case.

Following his arrest, officers found a large number of clothing and other items at the suspect’s home, most of which were in packages sent from abroad.
