Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos on Friday hailed the €202m worth of projects which are set to upgrade the Famagusta district.

“In all the municipalities and communities of free Famagusta, a total of 81 projects have been completed, are under construction or have been scheduled,” he told the Cyprus News Agency.

He made special mention of renovation works at the Liopetri river, the coastal front of Ayia Napa and the restoration of the Ayia Napa monastery.

With the upcoming May 30 parliamentary elections, many are eager to furnish their credentials – with similar announcements made last week at Eleftheria Square by President Nicos Anastasiades.

At the square, Anastasiades said: “I feel particularly proud that Nicosia is changing, especially since the government has contributed €273 million to the municipality for these projects.”
