The return of the once-endangered ibex to the Swiss Alps

In the Swiss National Park, established in 1914 in Switzerland’s canton of Graubünden, the Alpine ibex has become the subject of a young biologist’s research.

An ibex is any of several species of wild mountain goat, distinguished by the male’s large recurved horns, which are transversely ridged in front.

In this video, we follow natural scientist Seraina Campell Andri, who is on a mission to learn how many of the once-endangered animal the alpine wilderness can support.

To find the answer, she monitors ibex numbers and works closely with park rangers to track the elusive mountain goat. She must also climb steep terrain, practise exceptional patience and be ever-ready to adapt to the unpredictable nature of her subject.
