Driver tries to evade police, arrested after chase

Police arrested a 27-year old man after a chase through Larnaca and on the highway early on Friday morning.

According to a police announcement, Larnaca police signaled to the driver to stop as he was driving on Tasos Mitsopoulos Avenue at 3.40 am but he failed to do so.

He then stopped at the roundabout at old Larnaca Airport, reversed into a police vehicle and sped off on to the motorway, police in pursuit.

Additional patrol cars were called in and the driver, a Nicosia resident, was finally stopped and arrested. He was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and his road tax had expired. In addition, he was also booked for breaking the lockdown decrees.

He is expected to appear in Larnaca Court later today to be remanded in custody.
