Coronavirus: Record number of checks, bar owners fined (updated)

Paphos police have charged four bar owners for not following latest coronavirus measures, and reoperating their establishments.

The police said in three of the bars customers were being served indoors or allowed customers to stand or did not show the correct notifications. All were charged €500.

In the fourth case the matter will be referred to court as the owner also has no licence to sell alcohol or play music.

Police carried out a record 15,512 checks for breaches of coronavirus measures during 24 hours leading up to 6am on Monday.

As a result they booked 243 individuals, 11 of them business owners.

Of the 15,512 checks, 3,277 were conducted in Nicosia, 5,353 in Limassol, 1,485 in Larnaca, 1,300 in Paphos, 1,401 in Famagusta and 1,626 in Morphou.

Most people were caught violating the measures in Limassol, where 104 people were fined, followed by Nicosia with 59.

In Larnaca 27 were booked, in Paphos 21, in Famagusta 13 and in Morphou seven.

Traffic police conducted 951 inspections and booked 12 individuals.
