Man charged after more than 40 thefts

Police have filed charges against a 23-year-old man believed to be responsible for more than 40 thefts and attempted thefts from cars in Nicosia.

In an announcement on Tuesday, police said a suspect arrested on Sunday had allegedly admitted to the offences.

Dozens of cars were broken into between January and April this year as well as in September last year in the Kaimakli, Pallouriotissa and Aglandjia areas. Some of the vehicles were damaged as a result.

Police said investigations had led them to the arrest on Sunday of the man who reportedly admitted to the offences and took officers to 30 crime scenes. He was charged in writing and released.

On Tuesday, police filed charges for 17 cases for which investigations have been completed with more due to be filed once investigations are completed.

Omorphita police station officers are continuing their inquiries. The court set the date for the first batch of cases for April16.
