Coronavirus: 20,000 vaccination slots for those aged 55 and 56

A total of 20,000 vaccination slots will be available for people aged 55 and 56 on Tuesday and Wednesday, the health ministry said on Monday as it announced its vaccination programme for April 13 to 17.

Urging the public to book their appointment, it said the portal will operate as follows:

  1. Age group 55-56: From 8.00 am on Tuesday to 8.00 pm on Wednesday. A total of 20,000 slots.
  2. Age group 53-54: From 8.00 am Friday to 8.00 pm on Saturday. The number of slots will be announced.

Because of the technical problem when the portal opened for those aged over 61 last week, people aged 61 to 63 will be given another opportunity to book an appointment on Thursday, from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. The portal will operate only for the specific age group. The ministry did not say how many jabs will be made available.

Vaccinations will be at centres in all districts with AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to become available soon, the ministry said.

“Citizens are urged to make an appointment with the available, scientifically approved and licensed vaccines, A possible delay in vaccination can lead to serious illness and require hospitalisation,” the ministry concluded.
