Police on Saturday said they had received a report of possible medical malpractice from the family of a 71-year-old man who died just a few hours after being discharged from the Limassol hospital where he had undergone a heart procedure.

The man was discharged at around noon on Friday and died a few hours later.

He had undergone a heart procedure at the Limassol general hospital on April 11 and was discharged on Friday. Police said he died a few hours later.

The man was reportedly found by his wife in a bad state at around midnight and was rushed to the Limassol hospital where he died at around 1am.

The state health services organisation (Okypy) that runs state hospitals said on Saturday that according to the man’s attending doctors all indicated procedures were followed and his discharge was made based on medical data. Okypy said it would not comment further pending the police investigation.
