Berlin-based Cypriot pop artist releases second album

Berlin-based, Cypriot alternative pop artist Eleni Era has just released her album titled Younger Heart, an endeavour that moves from the glowing embers of the heart, through the fingertips, and onto the piano keys.

Her 2019 debut album Rise Love, was a collection of pop songs and with her sophomore album, Eleni plunges deep into an overdue appointment with her soul. The songstress writes dreamy pop merged with baroque drifts and cushioned with her electric-acoustic orchestrations. Eleni’s first single Who You Are features murky piano vamps cupped in a melancholic opulence and poise. “Everything you look for is in you and has been there all along. If you finally see yourself with unconditional love – well, that’s who you are,” she says.

Who You Are is followed by her second single Walk With Me, written after a period of dealing with old issues in a relationship. In the song phased guitar loops beam up through pillars of shimmering synths. “The solution to those issues was just to make a new start, side by side. I had the idea on a plane, flying above the earth, leaving old thoughts behind. I immediately recorded the vocals on my phone and finished the lyrics before landing.”

Raised in the invigorating stillness of a small Cypriot village before moving to Berlin at 18 to study classical voice and piano, Eleni has a knack for translating selfcare into her lyric and song-writing. Her first album Rise Love followed solo live videos showcasing stripped-down cuts of the album’s songs. Using both English and her native Greek, the songwriter builds on themes of empowered compassion in Younger Heart by way of ballads, psychedelic chamber pop, and nostalgic vintage gospel infusions.

The new album includes ten songs which can be found on most music streaming platforms including Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music. Alternatively, the album can be purchased through record label Louvana Records or bandcamp.com

“Younger Heart stands on the horizon of two time periods,” says the artist. “On one, it presents a palette of previous shades of my heart, the excitement, the naivety, the devastating pain, but also the majestic, passionate love of a young heart. Half the album’s songs describe different stages in a complicated past relationship. I wasn’t ready to embrace this chapter and accept the changes it brought on myself until now.

“Making this album was a turning point and a healing session, like ‘walking on broken glass towards the sun’ just as I conclude in ‘Mirror’. The rest of the songs were written during the last couple of years and are songs of hope, of compassion, of unity, of a new dawn.”
