National parks and private game reserves are a key part of the country’s tourism industry, which accounts for 7 per cent of its GDP and employs over 1.5 million people.

As countries around the world implemented Covid-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions, this vital source of revenue was cut off, threatening conservation efforts, including the ability to combat the global illegal poaching industry.
