Coronavirus: One death and 895 new cases (updated)

One person died from coronavirus on Saturday and 895 new cases were recorded, the ministry of health announced.

This brings to 298 the total number of coronavirus deaths.

The death referred to a 94-year-old woman who had not been vaccinated who died in the Larnaca general hospital, bringing the total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 298, of which 197 were men and 101 women.

Meanwhile, there were 292 people being treated for Covid-19 in state hospitals, the average age of whom was 58.6.

Of the 70 in a serious condition, 33 are intubated, three are in ICU but not intubated and 34 are in high dependency units.

The 895 new cases were found from a total of 58,459 tests, both PCR and rapid.

The 895 new cases represent a positivity rate of 1.53 per cent and bring to 61,576 the total number of cases recorded so far.

A total of 7,330 tests were PCR and 51,129 were rapid tests.

A total of 86 cases were recorded from 1,343 tests carried out on people who were known contacts of existing cases.

Seven cases were found among 1,869 tests carried out at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

A further 192 cases were found among 3,410 tests carried out on private initiative and 38 were found from 509 tests carried out at state hospitals, while one was found among 199 tests carried out on doctor’s orders.

Twenty five cases were found among 853 people who took a private rapid test in private labs and pharmacies.

Of the rapid tests carried out as part of the health ministry’s testing programme 546 cases were found from 50,276 tests.

In Nicosia, 18,882 tests were carried out among which 181 cases were found, a positivity rate of 0.96 per cent. In Limassol 152 cases were found from 12,482 tests (1,22 per cent), in Larnaca the figures were 95 cases from 7,761 tests (1.22 per cent), Paphos 40m cases from 4,429 tests (0.9 per cent) and in Famagusta 31 positives from 3,328 tests (0.93 per cent).

A total of 41 cases were found from 1,510 tests in closed facilities (prison, migrant camps etc), one among 75 athletes and five from 935 tests in the National Guard.
